Second Programmatic Energy and Water Sector Reforms DPL

About the project

The policy program supported by the DPL is structured around two pillars: (i) improving the financial viability of the electricity and water sectors, and (ii) increasing efficiency gains in the energy and water sectors. The operation also builds on a strong record and ownership by the government in implementing policy reform programs in the water and energy sectors supported by the programmatic DPL series, while recognizing the increasing challenges faced by Jordan in sustaining these reforms while coping with the impacts of the Syrian refugee crisis. This operation is benefiting from the GCFF to address the needs of middle-income countries hosting large numbers of refugees. This DPL provides additional support and incentives to maintain progress on these already challenging agendas to avoid trading off future fiscal and sector resiliency against the immediate demands of accommodating the Syrian refugees.

Project Development Objective (PDO)

To improve the financial viability and increase efficiency gains in the energy and water sectors in Jordan.
